Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a neurologic disease that attacks the central nervous system, hindering communication between the brain and other parts of the body. According to the National MS Society, there are nearly 1 million adults in the US suffering from MS—a few in my family are among them.
There is no cure. There is no recognized cause for MS. However, ongoing research provides treatment that can slow its progress and help relieve the effects of the symptoms. Eventually, the research may lead to a cure.
My sons and my brother join me annually on the “Coast the Coast” Bike MS® fundraising ride. Not only are we supporting a good cause, we are sharing a great bonding activity that’s become a family tradition. We are hopeful that our participation, along with the efforts of other volunteers and sponsors, will help fund the research that finds the cure.
